Muscovy Duck

Picture
The Muscovy duck is a large duck native to Central, and South America. The Muscovy is predominantly black and white, with the back feathers being iridescent and glossy in males, while the females are drabber. The amount of white on the neck and head is variable, as well as the bill, which can be yellow, pink, black, or any mixture of these. They may have white patches or bars on the wings, which become more noticeable during flight. Both sexes have red wattles around the bill, those of the male being larger and more brightly coloured.

The Muscovy is a very easy duck to keep and does not quack, which makes it great for the back garden; they are great at eating slugs, snails and flies.  They are very friendly and wag their tails when they see you with your feed bucket. The Muscovy is a very good flyer and likes to roost in trees at night if not put into a house at dusk. They do not need water to swim in, just a container deep enough to duck their heads under.

The standard weight is 15 pounds for a drake, 6.6 pounds for a duck; they produce a lovely white egg, laying approximately 190 per year.

Colours available; Lavender/white, Black/white, Chocolate/white.
